Obstruction raps against Failon dismissed

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Prosecutors' Office has junked the obstruction of justice charges against broadcast journalist Ted Failon and five members of his household.

City Chief Prosecutor Claro Arellano approved the recommendation by Assistant City Prosecutor Mary Jean Pamittan to dismiss the charges due to insufficiency of evidence. The raps were filed by the Quezon City Police.

"Happy kami sa decision. At least Ted can now move on," lawyer Kristine Tiangco, Failon's legal counsel, told reporters.

She said they are expecting to be summoned by the Commission on Human Rights and National Police Commission regarding the case any time soon.

"Sana ganun na din ang maging decision ng NBI [We hope the NBI comes up with the same decision]," she said, referring to the ongoing probe on the death of Failon's wife, Trinidad Etong
